Shinyanga - Buzwagi Gold Mine 220 kV Transmission Line

Project involves construction of 220 kV line from Shinyanga to Kahama and power supply to Buzwagi Gold Mine.

Completed projects in 2009 under  REA funds:

  • Electrification of Mkinga District Headquarters: Power supply to Mkinga district Headquarters. Scope of works included construction LV lines, erections of distribution substations and connections of customers. The project to electrify Mkinga District Headquarters and the surrounding villages has been completed.
  • Electrification of Kilolo District Headquarters: Power supply to Kilolo district Headquarters and surrounding villages;  The project involved  construction of 52km of 33kV lines, LV lines, erection of distribution substations and connections of customers. The district headquarters has been electrified on 18/09/2009. A total of 62 customers, including DC & District Council’s offices, have been connected. The project was inaugurated on 27/10/2009, by His Excellency Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete.
  • Chief Oswald Mang’ombe Secondary at Musoma: Power supply to Chief Oswald Mang’ombe secondary school; the project scope of works included construction of 7.3km of 33kV lines, LV lines, erection of distribution substations and service lines. The project has been completed and was inaugurated on 12/10/2009 by His Excellency Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete.
  • Power supply to Pangani Water Pumps at Tanga Region
  • Power supply to Mererani Water Pumps at Arusha Region
  • Electrification of Ngage B village at Simanjiro District
  • Properties compensation: Properties compensation for Wayleave Village Electrification Scheme along Songo Songo pipeline in Utete, Kilwa, Ikwiriri, Bungu, Kibiti and Mkuranga (Pending Nyamwage -Somanga Road Realignment Area); Serengeti district;  Kaliua – Tabora;  Ukerewe and Bunda

Other completed projects under Government funds

  • Mbinga Electrification Project

The electrification project of Mbinga Township involved construction of a new power station (2MW capacity) and its auxiliaries, refurbishment of the existing distribution network and construction of a new distribution network from the new power station linked with the existing one. The existing network constituted about 5km of 11kV lines, 9km of LV lines and 6 pole mounted distribution transformers. The scope of works also included testing and commissioning of a 320kVA diesel generator owned by Mbinga district council which aimed at supplying power to the township while procurement of 2MW generator sets was underway. Other works included refurbishment of the existing 250 service lines; construction of office building, residential houses, workshop and ablution block. The 5.7 billion shillings power project funded by the Government of Tanzania was completed in November, 2008 with a total of 470 connected customers.

  • Ludewa Electrification Project

The electrification project of Ludewa township involved construction of 12.8 km of 33kV over head distribution line, construction of 10km of LV distribution network for the township, erection of 5 pole mounted substations, installation, testing and commissioning of one generating set with 320kVA capacity along with its step-up power transformer and connection of 260 customers (220 as single phase customers and 40 as three phase customers).

The scope of works also involved construction of office building, residential houses, workshop cum store buildings, ablution block and installation of new 2 x 600 kVA generator sets. The project which is worth 4.7 billion Tanzanian shillings was funded by the Government of Tanzania and completed in November, 2008 with a total of 150 connected customers.
