ABC KIGOMA POWER STATION

BACKGROUND

The construction of ABC Kigoma power station started in 2009. The project was funded by the Government of Tanzania, in which the foundation stone was laid by the fourth President of the United Republic of Tanzania his Excellency Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete on 17th June, 2010. 

INAUGURATION

The new ABC Kigoma power station started to generate electricity in June 2010. Before that, the station was installed with Wartislla and Perkins Generating sets which are now out of operation due to deterioration.

OPERATION

ABC Kigoma power station is installed with FIVE diesel fired ABC- 8DZC engines, each with a capacity of 1.25MW making a total installed capacity of 6.25MW, and the available capacity is also 6.25MW.

Kigoma power station supplies power to Kigoma-Ujiji Municipal and New District of Uvinza plus part of the new district of Buhigwe.

To date the station is loaded with maximum load demand of 5.063MW, which is about 81% of the total station available capacity.

The station is operated and maintained by qualified Tanesco staff.
