NEW LIWALE POWER STATION

BACKGROUND

The construction of New Liwale power station started in October 2012. The project was funded by the TANESCO. The foundation stone was laid by the fourth President of the United Republic of Tanzania his Excellency Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete on 03th Dec, 2012.

INAUGURATION

New Liwale power station started to generate electricity in April 2013.

OPERATION

Liwale New power station is installed with two diesel fired wartisila- vasa 24 engines, each with a capacity of 0.424MW making a total installed capacity of 0.848MW, and the available capacity is also 0.75MW. 

New Liwale power station supplies power to liwale districts and near by villages.

The station is operated and maintained by qualified Tanesco staff.
